Military Recruitment in High Schools
The downfall in the economy has taken away jobs, causing many high school students - particularly those in poor, rural areas - to investigate their opportunities in the military. With promises of paid higher-level education, good salaries, and patriotism, the military recruits students and prepares them in advance of their graduation. Some students believe that the military is the only choice they have at a successful future. Peace activists, like Sally Ferrell, are trying to distribute counter recruiting materials in high schools, explaining other options that are available to students that wish to make a difference in the world. Some schools consider this material unpatriotic, while others deem it as an invaluable alternative to save lives. Do you think that counter recruiting materials should be distributed in high schools around the country?
